Working with Community Agencies and Partners

Tertiary education institutions need to be part of the local community and build relationships to support and encourage one another to build critical thinking, community mobilization and a practical application in the third-year Crime Prevention course. This paper details how Criminal Justice faculty and students at Humber Polytechnic in Toronto, ON, were able to build relationships with local businesses and social agencies and gain practical experience working on real-world issues. The students work with community partners to solve a current local problem, providing students with valuable experience, and the agencies receive new ideas, methods, and techniques for addressing the issues they face.
