¿De qué hablamos cuando decimos Arte Latinoamericano?: Exposiciones y perspectivas críticas contemporáneas

El presente texto fue presentado como conferencia inaugural del Congreso Internacional Del indigenismo a la interculturalidad: Balance del debate identitario en la crítica de arte latinoamericana celebrado en la Universidad Carlos III de Madrid en octubre de 2011. Su título: "¿De qué hablamos cuando decimos Arte Latinoamericano? Exposiciones y perspectivas críticas contemporáneas", plantea un interrogante presente en la mesas de debate sobre arte de los últimos años. Tomando como punto de partida el lugar de Latinoamérica en la escena mundial como el lugar de lo "otro", se plantea exponer cómo se construye la imagen de lo latinoamericano en las exposiciones -y presentaciones en escenarios como las Bienales y ferias internacionales- consideradas como espacios privilegiados en los que se revela el pensamiento crítico contemporáneo sobre las artes visuales. Se analizan una serie de exhibiciones a modo de casos que evidencian la forma en que los relatos curatoriales participan de la construcción y afirmación de la imagen de un país o región del mundo frente al resto. A partir de este análisis, se propone pensar la producción curatorial y la producción de textos críticos como acciones políticas dado que constituyen una mirada precisa sobre ciertos aspectos del mundo contemporáneo y construyen representaciones que se van instalando en el imaginario de nuestras sociedades. This text was presented as the opening conference of the International Congress From Indigenism to Interculturalism: Balances of the identity debate in the critic of Latin-American art held in October 2011 at the University Carlos III of Madrid. Its title: "What we speak about when we say Latin-American Art? Exhibitions and contemporary critical perspectives" arouses a recurring question in the art debates of the last years. Taking as a starting point the place of Latin-America considered by the world as the place of the "other", the objective of this text is to expose how the image of the Latin-American is constructed by exhibitions like Biennales and international fairs, both privileged forums of contemporary critical thinking about visual arts. A series of exhibitions are analyzed, as cases that exemplify the way these curatorial stories participate in the construction and assertion of the image of a country or region in front of the others. Departing from this analysis, the article proposes to considered curatorial and critical text productions as political actions that constitute a precise look about certain aspects of contemporary world.
