Utility of robotic assisted total hip arthroplasty for treatment of displaced femoral neck fractures case report

One of the most successful orthopedic procedures performed remains the total hip arthroplasty. Primary total hip arthroplasty eliminates pathologic joint arthritis and provides pain relief, allowing for increased mobility. For many displaced femoral neck fractures, total hip arthroplasty recreates a functioning hip. Robotic assistance in these cases attempts to reduce variation in component positioning and streamline certain parts of the procedure. As total hip arthroplasties performed for femoral neck fractures are well known to suffer from increased peri and post-operative complications, this population may benefit from improved intraoperative accuracy. We present two cases of displaced femoral neck fractures treated with robot assisted total hip arthroplasty as evidence of successful procedures, and to suggest advantages of robotic assistance in the trauma setting.
