Resumen

Descripción general del contenido del recurso.

In our study we focus on Czech-Bulgarian and Bulgarian-Czech lexicographical production from the mid-19th century to the mid-20th century. This overview includes all dictionaries from this period, regardless of their size and quality. We describe characteristics such as their source base, type of addressee and main macro- and microstructural features. Considering the stated goals, we first focus on the initial attempts to present the Czech and Bulgarian lexicon in a bilingual or multilingual dictionary form. They originate from the middle of the 19th century and were created within the context of collecting, translation and educational activities inspired by the concept of the Slavic reciprocity. We also look at a hitherto forgotten small Czech-Bulgarian dictionary by A. Teodorov-Balan which remains unfinished but nevertheless represents an integral part of the period’s context. We further analyse Czech-Bulgarian and Bulgarian-Czech lexicographical handbooks from the first half of the 20th century. These are mostly small-format editions with a primarily commercial purpose, some of which, however, go well outside the regular scope of pocket dictionaries. What they have in common is both an orientation towards the widest possible readership (especially the needs of native speakers of Czech) and maximum lexicographical condensation, which was achieved by applying the most economical lexicographical approaches and techniques possible.
