Resumen

Descripción general del contenido del recurso.

The material study is focused on the work of the now almost forgotten prose writer and playwright D. P. Syarov. He made his debut as a novelist, but already during his studies in Switzerland he began to write travelogues of a neo-romantic (and at times somewhat tabloid) conception, with unusual punchlines, set in Germany, Austria and also in Prague, although these were often fleetingly pitched love micro-stories, these short prose pieces often thematized horrific or mysterious events and depicted various strange human types or bizarre and shocking facts. Syarov took these impulses from the Bulgarian diabolists (the influence of diabolism is particularly evident in the books Po beliya svyat [On the White World, 1924; with expressive illustrations by Sirak Skitnik] and Svetitsa i drugi razkazi [Saintess and Other Stories, 1929]. A special place in Bulgarian-Czech literary relations is occupied by his original travel book Zlatna Praga. Kartini i predaniya [Golden Prague. Paintings and Legends, 1934], in which the narrator, while exploring the beauties of the ancient city, is accompanied by a guide and commentator of historical legends, the emancipated and attractive Czech Ludmila, thus making the travelogue genologically close to an adventure novel.Syarov was also a successful playwright in his time, for example his popular play from the life of the Revivalist writer Grigor Stavrev Parlichev, Kambanite na sveti Kliment [The Bells of St. Kliment, 1929; 3rd revised edition 1943], was performed almost all over Bulgaria after its premiere at the National Theatre in Sofia. The unpublished Czech translation of this drama, thematizing the revival movement in Macedonia and hitherto unknown and newly discovered (Zvony svatého Klimenta. Historická hra o prologu a třech dějstvích [The Bells of St. Kliment. A historical play with a prologue and three acts]. From the 3rd edition of 1943 translated [around 1948] by Zdenka Hanzová), discusses the conclusion of the paper, also mentioning the author’s rather scarce Czech reception (Marie Sísová translated two of Syarov’s stories, which appeared in the 2nd volume [1930] of the journal Magazín Národních listů).
