Resumen

Descripción general del contenido del recurso.

OBJECTIVE: Demographic data of Turkish patients with chronic renal failure (CRF) which is a huge public health problem with difficulties of therapy and increased cost, are available on the registry of Turkish Nephrology Society. We aimed to analyze demographical data of patients with end stage renal disease (ESRD) including age at first dialysis, indication and comorbidities of dialysis therapy and duration of the procedure in local region of Istanbul. MATERIAL and METHODS: Between 2014 and 2015, patients that were followed up in Nephrology outpatient service and receiving renal replacement therapy in Bagcilar Education and Research Hospital were enrolled. Demographical data including age, gender, dialysis duration, age of first dialysis and comorbid situations were recorded by interviewing with patients or first degree relatives. RESULTS: The mean age of 113 male (54.5%) and 94 female (45.4%) were 55.4 and 61.7 years; respectively. The mean age at the first dialysis session was 53.4 ± 15.9 years (minimum 13 years and maximum 90.7 years). Patients that underwent to dialysis for acidosis had the oldest age (85.3 years) while patients with unknown causes were youngest (35.8 years). CONCLUSION: Recognition of demographic data and etiologic factors of patients with ESRD have vital importance to develop preventive strategies and to increase public awareness. We think that repetition of national data along with data from local centers are essential to monitor the changes of information in time.
