Renal osteodystrophy is one of the frequently seen problems in chronic hemodialysis patients who have a long life. The mandible is a rare location for renal osteodystrophy (ROD). The Tc-99 MDP bone scintigraphy results of 32 patients (22 males, 10 females) with end stage renal failure and an average hemodialysis duration of 8.97 ± 3.99 years were obtained. Typical imaging findings of renal osteodystrophy in the mandible were found of 3 of the 32 patients (9.38%). The Xray data also supported the scintigraphic data in these cases. This study shows that renal osteodystrophic changes in uncommon areas of the skeletal system together with the widespread effects on this system can be observed with Tc99 MDP bone scintigraphy.
