Resumen

Descripción general del contenido del recurso.

This article focuses on innovative practices for training future linguists and translators within the framework of Education 4.0. The authors present the cases of how generative artificial intelligence (GenAI) can be applied in project-based teaching and learning. These consider human and AI collaboration, real-life communication context, and the development of modern professional competencies of translation and philology students. The study describes pedagogical cases designed and already tested in the Ukrainian higher education context. These go from theory to practice and focus on skills, where particular attention is given to individual and group translation tasks that provide the students with opportunities to compare and evaluate the GenAI outputs, give reasons for their own translation decisions, negotiate meaning, and learn how to provide constructive peer feedback. The study also analyzes how AI can help develop not only hard (translation) skills but also essential soft skills like presentation, empathy, and global citizenship. Additionally, the authors outline practices that foster such skills as initiative, confidence, and resilience and also encourage students to learn how to improve AI-generated outputs, how to experiment with language and style, and to choose their own learning trajectories. Moreover, the article highlights the role of project-based learning, role-plays and AI-simulations, and error analysis, which foster students’ autonomy, collaboration, and both critical and creative thinking. The key role of educators who tailor the AI use to meet the pedagogical goals, curricular reforms, and ethical standards is also highlighted. It is especially critical in crisis conditions such as wartime Ukraine where there is currently a call for a shift from tool-centered approaches to learner-centered, value-driven frameworks that would align with the goals of Education 4.0 and the Ukraine's postwar Recovery Plan.
