Palabras contra la muerte: Violencia, poder y comunidad en el pensamiento de Elias Canetti

A partir de la preeminencia que tienen en la obra de Elias Canetti temas tales como el miedo a la muerte y la supervivencia, la violencia y el poder, la tensión entre el individuo y la masa, etc., se plantea un recorrido hermenéutico de su obra centrado en la pregunta respecto de las formas del ser en común. Se busca destacar la originalidad de su pensamiento respecto de la relación entre la violencia, el poder y la comunidad, uno de los tópicos más espinosos, y por ello recurrentes, para el pensamiento moderno que –de Thomas Hobbes a Sigmund Freud, por mencionar algunos de sus interlocutores ejemplares– Canetti relee con un incansable espíritu crítico. A su vez, en Canetti estas consideraciones se hacen inescindibles de la refexión respecto de la relación entre el escritor, su vida y su época –que en su caso involucra particularmente su confrontación con el nacionalsocialismo–, lo cual hace necesaria la problematización de la dimensión autobiográfca, más o menos explícita, de toda escritura. Con ello, se trata de revalorizar una obra inclasifcable y frecuentemente incomprendida, menospreciada o desconocida por fuera del campo de la crítica literaria, y que recientemente ha comenzado a ser recuperada por algunos de los más interesantes pensadores contemporáneos, como es el caso del flósofo Peter Sloterdijk.
The chapter presents a hermeneutical approach to the work of Elias Canetti focused on the question about the being in common, from the preeminence that have themes such as fear of death and survival, violence and power, the tension between the individual and the mass, etc. It seeks to highlight the originality of his thinking about the relationship between violence, power and the community, one of the thorniest topics, and therefore recurring to modern thought that –from Thomas Hobbes Sigmund Freud, to mention some of its paradigmatic interlocutors– Canetti rereads with a tireless critic spirit. At the same time, in the work of Canetti these considerations become inseparable from the refection about the relationship between the writer, his life and times –that in his case involves particularly his confrontation with the National Socialism–, which requires the problematisation of the autobiographical dimension, more or less explicit, of all writing. Ultimatelly, the chapter seeks to revalue an unclassifable and often misunderstood work, underrated or unknown outside the feld of literary criticism, which has recently begun to be recovered by some of the most interesting contemporary thinkers such as the philosopher Peter Sloterdijk.
