Resumen
Descripción general del contenido del recurso.
Power generation from wind has become a matter of high priority in many regions of the world over the last decades, during which the installed wind capacity has been growing steadily. The incorporation of advanced control techniques into wind energy conversion systems (WECS) has been one of the major technological changes responsible for the improvement regarding efficiency and cost reduction of energy. These tasks are a particularly challenging control problem due to the special features of WECS such as the highly nonlinear nature of wind turbines, the variability and intermittency of the wind, the usual scarcity of reliable measures of it, and the uncertainty in the aerodynamic and electrical models of the system among other reasons. This Thesis proposes new solutions based on Second Order Sliding Mode (2-SM) to control variable-speed WECS based on doubly-fed induction generators in configurations with slip power recovery. In particular, several controllers based on 2-SM algorithms are designed, analysed and evaluated for two WECS topologies, one of them with single input and single output (SISO) and the other with multiple inputs and multiple output (MIMO). The main aim in all cases is to maximize the power conversion of the WECS, maintaining an adequate mechanical behaviour and reducing the chattering effect. Globally, the results allow us to study, analyse and evaluate the feasibility and characteristics of the application of the 2-MD SISO and MIMO to these systems. The proposed strategies are simple, very robust and of relatively simple implementation.
