Riepilogo

Descripción general del contenido del recurso.

The article examines artistic careers in 1950s Romania as the result of the interaction between ideological constraint, the institutional reorganization of the visual arts field, and individual strategies of professional adaptation. In the context of cultural Sovietization and the imposition of socialist realism as the official norm, the professional trajectory of the visual artist becomes, within the official system, largely dependent on a set of administrative mechanisms of validation: membership in the Union of Artists, access to state commissions and acquisitions, participation in official exhibitions, and integration into networks of symbolic reward. The study investigates the role of professional structures in the production of artistic hierarchies, as well as the function of compromise as a structural mechanism for remaining within the profession. It discusses strategies of formal compliance, limited negotiation, and partial withdrawal, interpreted as forms of constrained agency within a coercive system. The article also traces the continuities and recalibrations of the early post-Stalinist period and their effects on artistic memory and the reconfiguration of the canon after 1989. Methodologically, the research argues for the necessity of a critical reading of the institutional archive and the triangulation of sources, in order to avoid reproducing the hierarchies and distortions generated by the very system under analysis.
