<i>Pro Scientia et Patria</i>: universidad, ciencia y sociedad : El caso de la Universidad Nacional de La Plata durante el período gonzaliano (1905-1918)

La presente tesis trata sobre el modelo gonzaliano de universidad científica que se adopta en la Universidad Nacional de La Plata a partir de 1905. El análisis del caso particular plantea el tema de la relación ciencia-universidad en la Argentina en el momento inicial de esta vinculación, situado históricamente entre fines de siglo XIX y principios de siglo XX. Se hace particular referencia a la tensión estructural de la universidad argentina constituida alrededor del eje ciencia – profesión y a la articulación que se da entre ciencia y universidad con la emergencia de la profesión académica. En el trabajo nos proponemos mostrar, en primer lugar, en qué medida y mediante qué dispositivos el carácter científico constituyó el eje vertebrador de todas las prácticas universitarias en el período comprendido entre 1905 y 1918, etapa durante la cual J. V. González ejerció la presidencia de la UNLP: la formación científica de los estudiantes, la investigación y la extensión a la sociedad. En segundo lugar, nos interesa indagar acerca de sus límites para lo cual se aborda la discusión entre la dinámica institucional y los condicionamientos estructurales de la sociedad argentina. Finalmente, se discuten las tendencias –científicas o profesionales- que se consolidan al final del período considerado. This thesis is about the adoption of a scientifically -oriented University model since 1905, in accordance to Joaquín V. González vision , the founder and former president of the La Plata National University (UNLP -Universidad Nacional de La Plata). The analysis of this specific case deals with the permanent inter-dependence between Science-University, starting from the moment of the University´s foundation (between the final years of the XIX century and the beginnings of the XX century), to the present. Special attention is drawn to the structural tensions in this university which has been designed around a scientific- professional axis and also to the relationships between Science and University, as the result of the emergence of an academic profession. First of all, the aim is showing the measure and extent of this scientific character and identifying the strategies which were at the backbone of the practical experience of the university in the period between 1905 and 1918, when Joaquín V. González occupied the Presidency: scientific formation of the students, research and social extension (UNLP in community work). Secondly, the focus of interest is establishing its limits by discussing the institutional dynamics and the structural conditionings of Argentina´s Society. Finally, the emphasis lies on the enumeration and analysis of either scientific or professional tendencies which are now a remnant of that period. Licenciado en Ciencias de la Educación
