Más allá de la utopía educativa moderna

After the analysis of the Ecuadorian educative system of the end of the twentieth century, the findings are very disappointing. The Ecuadorian system does not accomplish the basic requirements of the learning process through all of its stages, including the superior level. The governments last decades have not changed this situation, because, as part of a larger historical trend, they are involved in decreasing their investments in social areas, like education, in spite of the good intentions and efforts from national and international supports of both public and private character. Thus far, we don’t see a change for the educative system coming from State sources and efforts. Is there a way out? I think that the Civil Society is now playing an outstanding social role in our communities through a profond questioning of the state’s role and programs; this social power already has changed two Presidents. I believe that the changes in education will be possible only if the state or national governments change their nature and purposes, or if we give a new value to the role of the Civil Society. The Civil Society already has developed important background with innovate and exceptional social and educative projects and programs, wich are not adequately appreciated by the Establishment. We may say that a “new Institutionality” is appearing, a new “historical subject” is rising up, bringing with it new educative experiences, but within a reformulated relationship between Establishment and Civil Society.
