Las conferencias geográficas impartidas por las alumnas de la Escuela Normal para Profesoras de la ciudad de México, 1894-1905

La historia de la geografía mexicana en el siglo xix ha centrado las investigaciones en la participación masculina en la exploración del territorio nacional. No obstante, al final de la centuria las mujeres se adentraron en la práctica geográfica mediante la docencia profesional en las escuelas primarias y la divulgación en la prensa, con el objetivo de formar una representación territorial entre los infantes acorde con su edad. Para ello, fue necesario dotar a las alumnas de las escuelas normales para profesoras con cátedras científicas que las formaran en los cánones académicos con fines docentes. En estas cátedras, las alumnas conocieron las perspectivas geográficas positiva y romántica que les permitieron instruir a los alumnos. Esto se aprecia en las conferencias científicas que se llevaron a cabo entre 1894 y 1905 en la Escuela Normal para Profesoras de la ciudad de México. En ellas se puede ver la exposición de las alumnas sobre cuatro temas: conocimientos generales, estudios sobre regiones mexicanas, estudios sobre regiones del mundo y relatos de viaje. El análisis de estos temas permite comprender la participación femenina en la educación y divulgación científicas mexicanas al final del Porfiriato y ampliar la historiografía sobre la práctica geográfica mexicana. The history of Mexican Geography in the 19 th century has focused the research on male involvement in the exploration of the country. But, at the end of the century, women penetrated into geographic practice by teaching in primary schools with the aim of forming a territorial representation among infants. It was necessary to provide the students of normal schools for teachers with scientific lectures were formed in the academic canon. In these lectures, the students learned about the positive and romantic geographical perspectives that would enable them to instruct students. This is seen in the scientific conferences published between 1894 and 1905 in the Normal School for Teachers of Mexico City, that show four topics raised by the students: general knowledge, studies on Mexican regions, studies on regions of the World and travelogues. The analysis of these issues shows women’s participation in the Mexican education and the popularization of Science at the end of the Porfiriato and expand the historiography on Mexican geographical practice.
