Investigation into main luminescence properties of various natural salt samples using TL and OSL tecniques

In this study, the natural salt minerals of Turkey were investigated using Thermoluminescence (TL) and optically stimulated luminescence (OSL). For this purpose, luminescence dosimetric properties such as glow curve shape, fading, dose-response ratio, linearity, thermal quenching and repeatability were investigated. The TL (up to 400 ℃ in steps of ⁓β= 2 ℃/s) properties were studied against natural and artificial doses. While natural TL signal does not show regular TL signal, artificially irradiated at low doses (0.1Gy) shows 3 TL peaks at about 80-100℃, 125-190 ℃, and 230-290 ℃, respectively. On the other hand, higher doses (10Gy) present 2 TL peaks at about 80-110 °C and 225-290 ° C, respectively. OSL properties of salt samples were also investigated using Hoya-U 340 filter. It was observed that the OSL signals were able to decrease the BGK level after about 2 seconds of illumination using blue LED. Results show that the luminescence properties of all examined salt samples could be good candidates to be used in accident dosimetry and dating studies over the related literature.
