Resumen
Descripción general del contenido del recurso.
This study was carried out in Alto Alegre, Departamento Unión (32º22 S- 62º53 W), Córdoba, Argentina, during two periods, one from October 1998 to July 1999 and from August 1999 to July 2000, in a characteristic site of the Espinal biogeographic province. The objective of this study was to analyze aspects of reproduction and life history of Elachistocleis bicolor, Leptodactylus latinasus and Bufo fernandezae, these syntopic species, since they are subjected to same climatic regime, reproductive responses should reflect their phylogenetic limitations. The frequency of captures for these three species was different during the two seasons, there were not significant correlations in the captures of B. fernandezae, with regard to rainfall and temperature, L. latinasus does not correlate with rainfall but does correlate with temperature, and in E. bicolor correlations with both variables were significant. The males of these three species showed testicular recrudescence in autumn and E. bicolor and L. latinasus maintained high values of testicular volume during most of the season, B. fernandezae was more fluctuating. The reproductive minimum size in B. fernandezae for males was 30 mm and for females 35 mm; in E. bicolor mature males measured 21 mm and females 24 mm and L. latinasus the mature males measured 22 mm and females 25 mm. The distribution of mature ova during the period of activity of these three species was different during the two years and each species had their particular characteristics, presence of large ovarian mass in spring, in the case of B. fernandezae, extended period of mature ovas in E. bicolor and low frequency of the presence of the mature ova in L. latinasus. The recruitment of the new cohort of B. fernandezae took place in October and November in the first period and from December to March in the second period, they represented the 45% and 75% of the active population. In the case of E. bicolor recruitment took place in October and November during the first period and of February to May in the second period, newborn represented the 35% of the population. In the case of L. latinasus recruitment was between December and January and they represented 33% in the first period and 9% in second period.
