Atención primaria de salud: perfil de uso de los medicamentos en adultos mayores

Se analizó el perfil de uso de los medicamentos utilizados en los pacientes adultos mayores (65 años o más) atendidos en los Centros de Salud, urbanos, de la Provincia de Santiago, Chile, durante los meses de junio a octubre de 1992. Mediante una entrevista famacológica se identificó al enfermo, verificando si cumplía con los controles médicos, si se automedicaba y si utilizaba los medicamentos prescritos; también se requirió su opinión sobre de la forma farmacéutica en cuanto al tamano, sabor, olor y dificultad de manipulación; finalmente se comprobó su grado de conocimiento y cumplimiento del tratamiento farmacológico y la necesidad de educación sanitaria. Se entrevistaron 422 pacientes. El promedio de indicación de medicamentos, por paciente, fue de 3, l y de la automedicación, de 1,9. Los medicamentos más consumidos fueron las vitaminas y sales minerales (15,7%). El 89,9% de los pacientes tenía buena opinión de su tratamiento, los diagnósticos más frecuentes fueron de tipo
cardiovascular(42,1%) y diabetes mellitus (14,1%). El grado de conocimiento aceptable alcanzó al 29,4% de los enfermos y el cumplimiento de tratamiento al 97,9%. Un 95,3 % requirió educación sanitaria, el 46,9% tuvo problemas con el tamano de las formas farmacéuticas y un 37,2% con el sabor de ellos.
The study was carried out in 21.0% of the urbans Primary Health Care centers of Santiago, Chile, during June and October 1992. The patient was identified through a pharmacological interview which included: knowledge degree and compliance of pharmacological treatment, selfmedication, use of prescribed medicines, patient's opinion on the pharmaceutical forms used (size, odor, flavor, and difficulty to manipulate), and need of patient education. 422 patients were interviewed. It was found that the average of medicine prescription per patient was 3.1 and selfmedication was 1.9. The most prescribed medicines were vitamins and minerals (15.7%). It was observed that 89.9% of patients had a good opinion about their treatments; the most frequent diagnosis were cardiovascular (42.1%) and diabetes mellitus (14.1%). The degree of acceptable knowledge of the treatment by the patients was 29,4% and the compliance of the treatment was 97,9%.
