Resumen
Descripción general del contenido del recurso.
Ziziphus mistol grows in the chaqueña biogeographic province. The rooth and cork are traditionally used to wash clothes and produce brown color for dye; the wood is used to make charcoal and some field work implements; leaves had been used as substitute of yerba mate. The fruits which have purgative, pectoral and hepatic protector properties are eaten fresh, deshidrated, and also in elaborated foods, e.g. "arrope", "patay" and "bolanchao". This investigation has aimed to carry out the morpho-anatomical diagnosis of Ziziphus mistol leaf, contributing to macro and microscopic identification of this species. The samples were prepared according to standard light and scanning microtechniques. The main diagnostic traits were: (1) leaf margin glandular toothed; (2) looped marginal venation; (3) areoles well developed; (4) amphistomatic leaf blade, excepcionally hypostomatic; (5) anomocytic, paracytic, anomostaurocytic and parahexacytic-dipolar stomata types; (6) medial value of adaxial stomatal index 2,2% and abaxial 6,7%; (7) medial value of palisade index 6,4%; (8) non-glandular trichomes distributed on both surfaces; (9) dorsiventral mesophyll trends to homogeneous leaf in which palisade and spongy tissue are not distinguishable from one another; (10) presence of mucilaginous cavities, perivascular tanniferous cells and druses. Leaf structure combines mesomorphic and xeromorphic traits, on that, some ecological considerations are offered.
