La Serranía de Ronda entre la Antigüedad y la Edad Media

El periodo comprendido entre los siglos VI y XII en la Serranía de Ronda fue un dilatado tiempo de transición y afianzamiento de nuevas estructuras que estuvo delimitado básicamente por dos fenómenos históricos: el primero relacionado con la extinción de un Estado, el romano, y la capacidad de adaptación de las poblaciones serranas de finales de la Antigüedad ante la nueva realidad que le sucedió. El segundo relacionado con el nacimiento y la consolidación de otro Estado, el omeya de al-Andalus, y la extensión por todo su territorio de la formación social sobre la que se sustentaba: la formación social islámica. La entrada en escena de este último acontecimiento alteró sobremanera la deriva en la que hasta entonces se hallaban inmersas las gentes de la Serranía. Sin embargo, tal alteración no se mostró de inmediato, lo que nos obliga a plantearnos hasta qué punto los serranos de los siglos VIII y IX, presentes y vinientes, fueron conscientes de estos cambios, y en qué proporción sus acciones fueron determinantes en ellos. The Serranía de Ronda, between Antiquity and the Middle Ages The period spreading between the 6th and the 12th centuries in the Serranía de Ronda was an extended transition time during which new structures were reinforced. This period was delimited by, mostly, two historical events. Firstly, the disappearance of the Roman state, and the ability of the population during the late Antiquity in the Serranía to adapt to the new reality they confronted. Second, the birth and consolidation of a new state, Ummayad Al-Andalus, and the expansion along the territory of its social structures, those of the Islamic social formation. This last event had an enormous influence on the evolution that the local population in the Serranía was experiencing. Yet, these changes were not immediately apparent, which makes us wonder to what extent the serranos from the 8th and 9th centuries were aware of these changes, and how determining their actions were.
