Transformaciones territoriales y en la red de ciudades : prioridades en materia de investigación urbano-regional para América Latina

En este trabajo se sintetizan preocupaciones, enfoques y conclusiones de investigaciones publicadas por la RII (Red Iberoamericana de Investigadores sobre Globalización y Territorio), con enfoque en la reestructuración económica y sus efectos espaciales en las ciudades y en la red urbana. El abordaje contempla las dinámicas territoriales movidas particularmente por la reestructuración de la industria y por los grandes proyectos de infraestructura e integración regional; la reestructuración urbana, y su manifestación en la red latinoamericana de ciudades, con énfasis en el rol polarizador de las áreas metropolitanas y en su inserción en la red transfronteriza de metrópolis; y los procesos de expansión metropolitana, configurando regiones de gran extensión territorial. Teniendo en cuenta las tendencias identificadas, puntúa elementos que plantean la construcción de una agenda de investigación en temas territoriales, urbanos y regionales para América Latina, que a su vez pueden subsidiar la formulación de políticas públicas.
This paper synthesizes the main concerns, approaches and findings inside researches published by the RII (Red Iberoamericana de Investigadores sobre Globalización y Territorio), with focus on economic restructuring and its spatial effects in the cities and across the urban network. The approach includes the territorial dynamics driven particularly by the restructuring of the industry, by large infrastructure projects and by regional integration treads; the urban restructuring and its manifestation in the Latin American urban system, with an emphasis on both the role of the metropolitan areas in the command of this system and the insertion of metropolis in the cross-border network of metropolis; the metropolitan expansion processes, designing regions of large territorial extension. Taking into account the trends identified, point elements for the construction of an agenda of research for Latin America, on territorial, urban and regional issues, which in turn could subsidize the formulation of public policies.
