MARIPOSAS PIERIDAE (LEPIDOPTERA: PAPILIONOIDEA) DE LA CUENCA DEL RÍO COELLO (TOLIMA), COLOMBIA PIERIDAE BUTTERFLIES (LEPIDOPTERA: PAPILIONOIDEA) OF THE COELLO RIVER BASIN (TOLIMA), COLOMBIA

Este estudio analiza la composición, riqueza, diversidad y estructura de la familia Pieridae en la cuenca del río Coello, cordillera Central de los Andes, departamento de Tolima (Colombia). Se establecieron 11 estaciones de muestreo localizadas entre los 433 y 3.600 m de altitud, que fueron muestreadas entre marzo y octubre de 2003, teniendo en cuenta tres tipos de hábitat (pradera, borde y bosque), mediante transectos de longitud no definida, entre las 08:00 y las 16:00 h, empleando para ello redes entomológicas. Se calculó el porcentaje de abundancia relativa para subfamilias y especies, además de estimar la riqueza (ICE, Chao1, Jack2 y Bootstrap) y la curva de rarefacción. Se determinó la estructura de la comunidad y se valoró la diversidad por unidad de muestreo. Se registran 42 especies ampliamente distribuidas en todo el gradiente altitudinal. Los estimadores evidenciaron que 44 muestras no son suficientes y se hacen necesarios más muestreos. La comunidad se ajusta a una distribución de serie-log y, la mayor riqueza y diversidad está representada en zonas por debajo de los 2.000 m e influenciada por el período de sequía.<br>This study analyzed the composition, richness, diversity, and structure of Pieridae butterflies in the Coello river basin (Tolima), Colombia, located in the Central mountain chain of the Colombian Andes. 11 sampling stations were established, ranging in altitude from 433 to 3600 m. Samples were collected in March and October 2003 using three different habitats for sampling (meadow, edge, and forest). Collections were made from 08:00 to 16:00 h in variable length transects, using entomological nets. Data analyses for determining community structure included calculation of relative abundance percentage for subfamilies and species, richness (ICE, Chao1, Jack2, and Bootstrap), rarefaction curve estimation and diversity valued by sampling unit. 42 butterfly species in this study exhibited a wide altitudinal distribution along the established gradient. The estimators pointed out the 44 samples were insufficient, thus demonstrating the need for increased sampling. The community fit a log-series distribution and it was apparent that the highest richness and diversity was affected by the dry season and existed in zones located below 2.000 m.
