La guerra en Afganistán y los intereses geopolíticos en Asia Central

La Administración Bush consideraba -como la anterior- de interés estratégico prioritario la región de Asia Central y del mar Caspio. Sin embargo numerosos hechos demuestran que EE.UU. estaba sufriendo reveses en la región. El Tratado de Amistad y Cooperación firmado entre Rusia y China en julio de 2001 fue uno de los más notorios. La respuesta al ataque sufrido el 11 de septiembre coloca a la superpotencia en el corazón mismo de Asia. Un análisis de las posibles consecuencias de esta decisión obliga a prestar atención a los intereses y tendencias de las demás potencias asiáticas.
Bush administration, (like Clinton´s), considered the region of Central Asia and the Caspian Sea as being one of prime strategic interest. However, numerous facts demonstrate that the US were encountering opposition in the region. The Friendship and Co-operation Treaty signed between Russia and China in July 2001 was one of the most salient examples of this tension. The response to the attack on September 11 places the superpower in the heart of Asia itself. An analysis of possible consequences of this decision forces us to focus our attention on the interests and tendencies of the other Asian powers.
