Dimitrie Gusti’s „Science of the Nation“ – a model for The Transylvanian Youth

The Hungarians living in Transylvania had to accept, after World War I, the status of ethnic minority. It was only towards the end of the Twenties that a new generation of intellectuals firmly formulated the need to confront the new realities. Leading representatives of this generation were the young intellectuals grouped around the periodical Erdélyi Fiatalok (The Transylvanian Youth), published in Cluj between 1930 and 1940. In this context, they established scientific cooperation links with Dimitrie Gusti’s school in Bucharest. The Gusti School has strongly influenced the conceptual world of the Transylvanian Hungarian elites, and we’ll conclude that this influence was mutual.
