Catástrofe e invasión discursiva en <i>Phaedra</i> de Séneca

El prólogo de la tragedia despliega dos espacios distintivos: las silvae de Hipólito y el opresivo y lujurioso espacio interior del palacio de Fedra. Cada personaje es definido por las características de los espacios que sus discursos configuran: los castos y salvajes bosques de Hipólito revelarán, bajo su manto de agreste tranquilidad, una violenta y estéril dicción que sugiere una inadecuación del personaje al paradigma de sapiens que parte de la crítica ha visto en él, mientras que el espacio interior de Fedra estará lleno de llamas y vapor, símbolos de su pasión. Ambos mundos conviven a modo de compartimentos estancos: frío y llamas, castidad y libido, nieve y vapor conviven pacíficamente, y en esta convivencia no hay ni catástrofe ni tragedia. Éstas se desarrollan y toman fuerza a medida que Fedra se adentra discursivamente en los dominios de Hipólito y los tiña progresivamente con su discurso, convirtiéndolo finalmente en un locus horridus donde el joven cazador huirá horrorizado como las bestias que solía perseguir. Por lo tanto tragedia y catástrofe ocurren cuando las silvae de Hipólito se convierten en el acechante Nemus habitado por lujuriosas criaturas gracias a la intrusión discursiva que la reina realiza en el áspero paisaje configurado en la monodia inicial del personaje.
The tragedy's prologue unfolds two distinctive territories: Hippolytus' silvae and Phaedra's interior world of luxuries. Each character is defined by the environment that his or her speech configures: the chaste and wild woods of Hippolytus will reveal, under their sylvan austerity, a diction of violence and sterility which hints the inadecuation of the young hunter to the image of sapiens that part of the critic sees in him, while Phaedra's interior and overwhelming space will be crowded by flames and vapor, symbols of her passion. Both worlds stand as two separate environments: chill and flames, chastity and libido, snow and steam coexist unaware of each other, and in such condition neither tragedy nor catastrophe occur. They begin to unfold due to Phaedra's breaching of the boundary between them. The queen discursively steps into Hippolytus' silvae, progressively tainting them with the attributes of her world until they eventually turn into a locus horridus throught which the young hunter will flee in horror as the wild beasts he used to stalk. Therefore tragedy and catastrophe happens when Hippolytus' silvae are turned into a stalking nemus inhabited by luxurious creatures thanks to Phaedra's discursive invasion of the rough landscape conf igured by the character in his starting monody.
