El potencial de integración regional de Centroamérica: limitaciones y perspectivas

La idea de una Centroamérica unida nace desde la independencia misma el 15 de septiembre de 1821. La integración regional ha sido impulsada en numerosas oportunidades; sin embargo, no todos los países demuestran el mismo interés por alcanzar este objetivo. Las continuas dificultades hacen necesario cuestionarse sobre el verdadero potencial para integrarse. Es por ello que el objetivo de esta investigación consistió en determinar ese potencial para Centroamérica, así como el de grupos subregionales agrupados a partir de condiciones específicas presentes en cada nación. El aporte metodológico del estudio es el "Índice de Potencial de Integración Regional" (IPIR), que otorga valoraciones entre 0,0 y 10,0; distribuidos en cinco categorías distintas. Así, el estudio implica un avance en el conocimiento científico y resulta novedoso en cuanto determina el potencial de integración de Centroamérica, y aporta al conocimiento porque metodológicamente permite, con amplios niveles de flexibilidad, medir el potencial de integración de otros bloques regionales. The idea of a united Central America was born as soon as it gained its independence on September 15, 1821. Regional integration has been prompted in numerous opportunities; nevertheless, not all the countries show the same interest in reaching this objective. The continuous difficulties make it necessary to question the true potential for this integration. It is for this reason that the objective of this investigation consisted in determining that potential for Central America, as well as that of subregional groups that were associated with specific conditions in each nation. The methodological contribution of the study is the "Regional Potential Integration Index" (IPIR), that offers appraisals between 0.0 and 10.0, distributed in five different categories. Thus, the study implies an advance in scientific knowledge, turning out to be a novel approach to determine the potential for the integration of Central America, and a contribution to the field, because it allows methodologically and with extensive levels of flexibility to measure the potential for integration of other regional blocs.
