El Sesquicentenario de Mayo, la memoria y la acción editorial: memoria e historia hacia 1960

El trabajo que aquí se presenta analiza los lugares de memoria relacionados con los grandes aniversarios del suceso considerado primigenio en la historia argentina: el 25 de mayo de 1810 y la manera en que se conmemoró el Sesquicentenario, considerando especialmente el manejo de esa memoria desde el ámbito oficial y editorial. En 1960 no quedaban monumentos por erigir ni nombres por instaurar, la acción editorial fue el centro de la conmemoración y se propuso, aunque no siempre lo logró, una difusión masiva de la documentación e investigaciones que giraban en torno a Mayo. A pesar de las intenciones que guiaron a quienes comenzaron en 1958 los preparativos de festejo, el Sesquicentenario resultó una celebración frustrada y una conmemoración cuasi forzada, que quedó inconclusa tanto en sus objetivos como en el aspecto material. The aim of this paper is to analyse the historical landmarks related to the great anniversaries of an event regarded as original in Argentinian History : the 25th May 1810, and the way in which the Sesquicentenary was commemorated, taking into special consideration the handling of recollection in the official and publishing spheres. In 1960 there were neither buildings left to be erected nor names to be remembered. Commemoration was at the core of the publishing action, though not always successful.
