Presentación del Prólogo de T. S. Kuhn a la traducción inglesa de Entstehung und Entwicklung einer wissenschaftlichen Tatsache de Ludwick Fleck - Los orígenes fleckianos del pensamiento de Kuhn

Si bien Thomas Kuhn en al menos dos ocasiones se refiere a Ludwik Fleck –en el “Prefacio” a La estructura de las revoluciones científicas y, años más tarde, en el “Prólogo” a la traducción al inglés de la obra de Fleck– en la primera señala que “anticipaba muchas de mis propias ideas” –sin especificar cuáles– y en la segunda no abunda demasiado en el tema. Como surge de la lectura de la obra de Fleck, esa influencia es mucho mayor a la esperada por estas dos citas. Nos proponemos en el presente trabajo rescatar su figura para la memoria histórica de la filosofía de la ciencia, recordando brevemente sus datos biográficos y sintetizando los puntos centrales de su epistemología. Veremos entonces que la deuda intelectual de Kuhn se extiende desde la noción de estilo de pensamiento –funcionalmente equivalente a la de paradigma– hasta la de “colectivo de pensamiento” –muy próxima a la de comunidad científica–, pasando por el análisis de los hechos científicos, la función de las Gestalten o elementos que prefiguran al Kuhn de las matrices disciplinarias, o a su muy posterior noción de especiación. Pero Fleck es mucho más que un antecesor de Kuhn. Es el iniciador de una vasta corriente epistemológica que piensa que la ciencia no se limita a teorías aisladas, sino que consiste en estructuras de pensamiento que evolucionan en el tiempo, llámense “paradigmas”, “programas de investigación”, “tradiciones científicas” o “habitus”, y que hace del análisis histórico la base para fundamentar sus posiciones. While Thomas Kuhn in at least two occasions referred to Ludwik Fleck–in the “Preface” to The Structure of Scientific Revolutions and, years later, in the “Prologue” to the English translation of Fleck’s work–in the first occasion he states that Fleck “anticipated many of my own ideas”–without specifying on what they consisted. In the second occasion–although much more specific–he is still not too abundant in the field. If we read Fleck’s work, we will noticed that this influence is much greater than we expect from these two quotations. We intend in this paper to rescue the historical memory of this author for the philosophy of science. To do so, we will introduce some brief Fleck’s biographical data, and then we wil synthesize the main points of his epistemology. We shall then see that Kuhn’s intellectual debt extends from the notion of thought style–functionally equivalent to the notion of paradigm–until the “collective thinking”–very close to the kuhnian scientific community–, going through the analysis of scientific facts, the role of Gestalten in science, some elements that prefigure the Kuhn’s disciplinary matrices, or his later notion of speciation. But Fleck is much more than an ancestor of Kuhn. He is the initiator of a vast philosophical trend that thinks that science is not limited to isolated theories, but consists in structures that evolve over time, whether they name them “paradigms,” “research programs,” “scientific traditions,” or “habitus".
