Suetônio e a tradição historiográfica senatorial: uma leitura da Vida de Nero Suetonius and the senatorial historiographical tradition: a reading of the Life of Nero

Este artigo tem por objetivo analisar a Vida de Nero, de Suetônio, procurando nela identificar elementos que permitam associá-la à tradição historiográfica senatorial romana, a despeito de tal correlação não ser usualmente enfatizada pela crítica moderna. A primazia atribuída à obra de Tácito e a subvalorização do estilo literário de Suetônio são aspectos que contribuíram para essa última posição.<br>This article analyzes Suetonius’ Life of Nero trying to identify some elements that allow associating it with the Roman senatorial historiographical tradition, despite the minor importance given to such link by the modern critique. The primacy conferred to the works of Tacitus as well as the devalorization of Suetonius’ literary style are some of the aspects that contributed to this latter reading.
