This article first outlines the location of archival materials pertaining to the history of the university in the Carolinum and at the Faculty of Law in Prague. Then it explains the main stages of restoration of the Carolinum compound and the construction of a new building to house the archive of the then Institute for the History of the Charles University in Ovocný trh. The subject is treated within a wider context of construction of new archive buildings. The author documents later efforts of the Archive of the Charles University to acquire a depository. These attempts finally succeeded in 1986, when the archive acquired the administrative building of Uranium Mines Příbram in Lešetice, where the current Lešetice Depository was created. To supplement the wider context of its creation, the text includes a section on the history of mineshaft 4 in Lešetice. The article concludes with a description of the current spatial facilities of the Institute for the History and Archive of the Charles University.
