Jaime; Yamin, Alicia Ely","isbn":null,"issn":null,"publisher":"Instituto Nacional de Salud","publication_year":"2008","resource_url":"","abstract_text":"La salud ha permanecido en la pr\u00e1ctica, en gran medida, en el \u00e1mbito de los m\u00e9dicos y profesionales de la salud, quienes han examinado la salud y los problemas de salud pr\u00e1cticamente con un enfoque biom\u00e9dico basado en la presencia o ausencia de enfermedad. Esta divisi\u00f3n separa la salud del contexto social -relaciones sociales y de poder- en el que las personas viven. Los autores sostienen, a partir de las graves desigualdades e inequidades existentes en el estado de salud dentro y entre los pa\u00edses en los inicios del siglo XXI, que la salud no puede seguir siendo simplemente un concepto biom\u00e9dico, sino que debe ampliarse para incorporar los conocimientos de otras disciplinas y, en particular, la de los derechos humanos. Nunca ha sido m\u00e1s importante para los futuros proveedores la necesidad de ser educados en un paradigma m\u00e1s amplio de la salud.
