Tambi\u00e9n se discuten las innovaciones m\u00e1s recientes, dentro de las que destacan la promulgaci\u00f3n de una nueva Ley General de Salud, la descentralizaci\u00f3n de la regulaci\u00f3n de los establecimientos de salud y el dise\u00f1o de un nuevo modelo de atenci\u00f3n a la salud denominado Modelo de Salud Familiar y Comunitario.<br>This paper describes the health conditions in Nicaragua and discusses the characteristics of its national health system including its structure and coverage, its financial sources its physical, material and human resources the stewardship functions developed by the Ministry of Health the participation of citizens in the operation and evaluation of the system and the level of satisfaction of health care users.
