Proyecto de investigación: indicadores de sustentabilidad aplicados al diseño industrial

Las intervenciones del hombre sobre los ecosistemas datan de los orígenes de su existencia. Sin embargo, sus consecuencias ambientales se acentúan con la Revolución Industrial y, a partir de los últimos decenios del siglo XX, la problemática se intensifica sustentada en el paradigma de la “sociedad de consumo”. Ante esas problemáticas, la gestión ambiental aporta bases para formular acciones encaminadas a lograr la máxima racionalidad en el proceso de decisión tendiente a la sostenibilidad del hábitat. Dentro del Diseño Industrial, es posible reconocer instrumentos de gestión ambiental tanto preventivos (normativos, autorregulación, sensibilización, investigación aplicada) como correctivos (etiquetado ecológico, análisis del ciclo de vida, auditorías). Con la finalidad de aportar bases de carácter proactivo al proceso de diseño, se propone un proyecto de investigación que tiene como objetivo general, elaborar una guía de conceptos/procedimientos que permita al diseñador industrial desarrollar sus proyectos asegurando la sustentabilidad de los recursos utilizados (agua, energía y materiales); todo esto, en la expectativa de orientar a los profesionales en la selección de materias primas a utilizar, conociendo su origen y comparando indicadores concretos de eficiencia en el uso de los recursos. However, its environmental consequences are accentuated with the Industrial Revolution and, from the last decades of the twentieth century, the problem intensifies supported by the paradigm of "consumer society". Given these problems, environmental management provides a basis for formulating action to achieve maximum rationality in the decision process aimed at the sustainability of the habitat. Inside the Industrial Design, you may recognize environmental management instruments both preventive (regulatory, self-awareness, applied research) and corrective (eco-labeling, life cycle analysis, audits). In order to provide proactive database design process, we propose a research project that aims to generally develop a guide to concepts / procedures to enable the industrial designer to develop their projects ensuring sustainability of resource use (water, energy and materials), all this in the expectation guide practitioners in selecting raw materials to use, knowing your home and comparing specific indicators of efficiency in resource use. This study discusses the above project and the progress made relating mainly to the selection of specific indicators to make comparisons. In principle, we examined the possibility of evaluating two indicators of sustainability: the water footprint and energy footprint. These indicators can be applied successfully to the analysis of the processes of collection and compilation of the main inputs used by the designers (metals, plastics, wood, polymers, ceramics, etc).
