The first months of the war on the Eastern Front, July – September 1941, were, for the Jews in the towns and villages from Bessarabia and Bukovina, a period of mass executions. The „special orders“ given by Antonescu encouraged the army, gendarmerie and civilians to exterminate the Jewish population.
