Summary

Descripción general del contenido del recurso.

Abstract Following a request from the European Commission, EFSA was asked to deliver a scientific opinion on the safety and efficacy of vitamin B12 (cyanocobalamin) produced by fermentation with Ensifer adhaerens CCTCC M 20241585, when used as a nutritional additive for all animal species. The Panel on Additives and Products or Substances used in Animal Feed (FEEDAP) could not conclude on the origin and history of modification of the production strain E. adhaerens CCTCC M 20241585. Although DNA of the production strain was not detected in the product, uncertainties remain regarding the possible presence of its viable cells. Considering the uncertainties on the origin of the cyanocobalamin production strain CTCC M 20241585 and on the possible presence of its viable cells in the additive, the Panel could not conclude on the safety of the additive for the target species, consumer, users and the environment. Cyanocobalamin produced by fermentation with E. adhaerens CCTCC M 20241585 is effective in meeting animal's nutritional requirements when administered via feed.
