THE INFLUENCE OF JAPANESE AND KOREAN BORROWINGS ON THE DEVELOPMENT OF MODERN ENGLISH

The article examines the influence of Eastern, specifically Japanese and Korean, borrowings on the development of modern English. The factors contributing to the appearance of Eastern borrowings in the English language are analyzed, and it is determined that lexical units of Japanese and Korean origin in English reflect cultural exchange between East Asian countries and English-speaking countries. Their spread is explained by globalization and the growing worldwide interest in Japanese and Korean culture. Japanese and Korean borrowings in English preserve their cultural flavor and promote Japanese and Korean culture among English-speaking countries. The study identifies the fields from which words are most frequently borrowed from Japanese and Korean, revealing that the emergence of such borrowings in English is directly related to the globalization of Japanese and Korean culture, since the largest number of words comes from the sphere of culture, particularly sports, literature, cinematography, and cuisine. Social networks and modern media popularize Eastern vocabulary, facilitating its integration into the modern English lexicon. It is found that Eastern borrowings play an important role in shaping the modern vocabulary of the English language.
