Lo pictórico en Startling the Flying Fish, de Grace Nichols: el desborde del párergon y el peso del testimonio

El presente articulo analiza el poemario Startling the Flying Fish de la autora guyanesa Grace Nichols a partir de dos ejes centrales: cómo opera el trabajo con lo pictórico como una clave de lectura afín a la estética del desborde propia de la poeta y cómo se sitúa a la protagonista creada en este libro, Cariwoma, como aquella que debe rendir testimonio. Presentada tanto como quien da cuenta de la propia experiencia y quien es una tercera parte por fuera del conflicto, Cariwoma parece ser una figura descentrada, hecho que aquí se analiza en consonancia con la noción de apertura que el término párergon también conlleva, según sostiene Derrida en La verdad en pintura. In this paper, we analyze Startling the Flying Fish by Guyanese author Grace Nichols following two main topics. Firstly, the use of paintings and painting devices as a key for reading the whole book, one that is akin to the aesthetic of the overflow that characterizes this poet. Secondly, how the protagonist, Cariwoma, is seen as the one who needs to bear witness. Presented on the one hand as giving an account of personal experience, and, on the other, as a third party outside conflict, Cariwoma seems to be a decentered figure, which is analyzed here in line with the openness suggested in the term parergon, as seen by Derrida in The Truth in Painting.
