Material and Cultural Manifestations of Azerbaijani Hospitality in 17th- and 18th Century Ceramic Artefacts

Clay vessels are among the oldest objects created by humans. They have played a significant role in the history of humanity, both in everyday life and in culture. In the Middle Ages (approximately from the 9th to the 15th centuries), ceramics in Azerbaijan reached a high level of development and formed an important component of the domestic, artistic and architectural culture of the region. The article is bringing to readers notice contains scientific concepts developed within the framework of the historical and cultural approach to systemic study of ancient pottery and its products as a peculiar source of historical information. The ceramics of Azerbaijan are an integral part of the country's cultural heritage. From the everyday pottery of ancient settlements to the magnificent tiles that adorn Islamic-era mosques, Azerbaijani ceramics tell the story of the region's rich history, artistic traditions, and cultural influences. The production techniques, functional roles, and anthropomorphic and zoomorphic motifs of ceramic artifacts not only draw attention but also reveal the artistic sensibilities and worldviews of their period. Their study and dissemination to the public remain essential as an integral aspect of Azerbaijani history. The article presents potteries produced in Azerbaijan and other countries between the 16th and 19th centuries, with unique arrangements and drawings, preserved in the National Museum of History of Azerbaijan. The museum's pottery collection is renowned for its not only sheer scope but also for its historical significance, offering valuable insights into the artistic, cultural, and technological developments of different societies throughout history.
