Summary

A study to reduce the number of sensors needed to imple-ment controllers in ACDC converters is developed in this thesis. The application of nonlinear control strategies to improve the converter performance is also investigated. Several actual voltage and current sensors are replaced by virtual sensors based on state observers. Nonlinear observers are designed in order to properly guarantee the variable estimation in the whole converter operation range, conside-ring both the nonlinearities of the converter and the load. Reduced-order nonlinear observers are employed to diminish the computational burden. A transformation over the measurable signals, which allows obtaining a linear estimation-error dynamics, is introduced in this thesis. In this way, the estimation error converges over an exponential trajectory, and classical linear techniques can be used to tune the proposed nonlinear observer. The feedback linearization technique is chosen in order to build the converter controller. A transformation is proposed considering two alternative outputs which are dierent from what is generally found in most of the literature on power converters. The main idea behind this transformation is to archive a full input-output feedback linearization, which allows eliminating the converter internal dynamics and obtaining a more ecient DC voltage regulation.
