The increasing urgency of environmental sustainability has prompted extensive research into leveraging IS to address ecological challenges. A total of 4087 Scopus-indexed publications (2002–2023) were retrieved for bibliometric mapping. Co-citation analysis (minimum threshold: four citations; resulting in 69 cited references) and co-word analysis (minimum threshold: 22 keyword occurrences; resulting in 64 keywords) were conducted using VOSviewer. A PRISMA flow diagram was used to transparently document the screening and selection process for qualitative synthesis, yielding 90 core studies for in-depth interpretation. Results reveal a shift from foundational concepts such as Green IT toward emerging technologies like AI and blockchain, and increased alignment with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The study employs a three-stage methodology and offers a longitudinal perspective on thematic development. It presents practical implications for researchers, policymakers, and industry leaders, and contributes to advancing sustainable digital innovation by positioning Information Systems (IS) as both a driver and enabler of environmental resilience.
