The use of automation for creation and management of records throughout their life-cycle has increased quantitatively and qualitatively over the past decade. The article describes the Brazilizan National Bank for Economic and Social Development - BNDES' Archives and Records Management System and points out that it will be necessary for records managers and archivists not only to understand the emerging technologies but also to adapt their professional methodologies in order to ensure the survival of the archives in the Computer age.
