En las sociedades con transmisión paterna de los apellidos, la distribución de los mismos debería seguir el mismo recorrido que los linajes del cromosoma Y. Se evalúa esta hipótesis mediante la definición de haplotipos de microsatélites del cromosoma Y en ciento setenta y cinco individuos del Noroeste Argentino, que abarcan noventa y cinco apellidos. Se compararon estas dos fuentes de información, buscando concordancias entre y dentro de apellidos, trazando redes medianas, estimando el tiempo de divergencia y comparando los resultados obtenidos con la base de datos internacional YHRD. Se establecieron dos haplotipos nodales, uno nativo americano y otro de origen europeo, rodeados por el resto de los haplotipos. En un solo caso se encontró concordancia entre apellidos y los perfiles establecidos mediante microsatélites del cromosoma Y, y también se reconocieron linajes genéticos que involucraban diferentes apellidos. A su vez, para definir si las divergencias se debían a polifiletismo o a mutaciones recientes, se estimó la distancia temporal entre las muestras del mismo apellido y haplogrupo, encontrando que en cerca de la mitad de estos casos esta profundidad temporal excedía el origen de los apellidos. Estos datos sugieren que la transmisión irregular del apellido en el Noroeste Argentino fue más elevada que aquella encontrada en otros países. In societies with a paternal transmission of surnames the distribution of these should follow the same trail of the Y-chromosome lineages. We evaluate this hypothesis by establishing the Y-STR haplotypes of a hundred and seventy five individuals from the Argentinean Northwest, distributed among ninety five surnames. We compared these two sources of information, searching for matches within and trough surnames, establishing median-joining networks, estimating their time of divergence and comparing our results with the international database YHRD. We established two nodal haplotypes (one Native American and the other European), surrounded by the rest. In only one case we found a match between surnames and Y-STR, and we also recognized genetic lineages involving different surnames. Likewise, to define if these divergencies were due to poliphyletism or recent mutations, we estimated the time distance between the samples of the same surname and haplogroup, finding that in nearly half of these cases the time depth exceeded the surname origin. This data suggest that the irregular transmission of surnames in the Argentinean Northwest has been higher than the one found in other countries. Likewise, similarities between both kinds of lineages should not be taken for granted.
