Descripción general del contenido del recurso.

La comarca considerada en este trabajo, se ubica en la zona centro-occidental de la provincia de Chubut. Han sido identificadas ocho unidades estratigráficas características, habiendo sido definidas varias de ellas con criterio formal. La columna está integrada por rocas paleozoicas, jurásicas, cretácicas, terciarías y cuaternarias. La geología estructural del sector ha sido interpretada de acuerdo con criterios de fallamiento transcurrente fundamental, habiéndose identificado una serie de pliegues de arrastre, fallas de flanco, de cizalla y tensionales de diverso orden, cuyo control fundamental está ejercido por el "Alineamiento Chubut Medio".
