obvious influence on the failure strain than on the initial yield strain. The non-uniform distribution of fine soil has a more significant influence on the initial yield strain than on the failure strain. Key words: fine soil,non-uniform distribution,fBy considering the completely liquefied soil as fluid, the horizontal vibration of piles in liquefied soil is studied. The liquefied soil is simulated as fluid, and the saturated soil is simulated by using the model of Biot’s dynamic consolidation. The equation of fluid motion is solved by use of the method of separation of variables. The horizontal dynamic characteristics are obtained considering the continuity conditions between the liquefied soil layer and the saturated soil layer and the vibration equation of piles. The impedance function of the saturated soil-liquefied soil-pile interaction system is obtained with the assumption of perfect contact between piles and soil by means of the matrix transfer method. It is shown that the solution is in good agreement with that of the cantilever cylinder in water. A parametric study is conducted on the main features of pile-soil interaction. As a result, there are some effects of the thickness of liquefied soil layer and the density of fluid on the impedance of piles.
