Octreótide: sus múltiples posibilidades en la terapéutica

Octreótide es una opción terapéutica efectiva en el manejo de tumores neuroendócrinos, fístulas del tracto gastrointestinal, hemorragias agudas por várices, acromegalia, diarrea secretaria, y pancreatitis aguda y crónica. Es seguro y bien tolerado y sus principales efectos adversos son: dolor en el sitio de inyección, malestar gastrointestinal y formación de cálculos biliares. Se requieren mayores estudios clínicos para considerar el posible beneficio de esta droga como un agente alternativo para el tratamiento de desórdenes linfoproliferativos, la terapia analgésica y la radioterapia tumoral. Octreotide is an effective therapeutic option in the managemient of neuroendocrine tumour, fistulas of the gastrointestinal tract acute variceal hemorrhage, acromegaly, secretory diarrhoea, and acute and chronic pancreatitis. Ocbreotide is safe and well tolerated and its principal side effect are injection site pain, gastrointestinal discornfort, and developrnent of gallstones. More clinical trials are required to clarify the possible benefit of this drug as an alternative agent for the treatment of lymphoproliferative disorders, analgesic therapy and radiotherapy of tumours.
