Cirugía general-ciencia y arte en las dos últimas décadas, es el producto de una necesidad académica por parte del autor y de sus estudiantes, para el desarrollo de la asignatura de cirugía general, de la cual he sido docente tanto en pregrado como posgrado, en diferentes instituciones hospitalarias importantes como fue el hospital San Juan de Dios de Bogotá (Hortúa), Clínica San Pedro Claver (ISS), posteriormente Mederi y actualmente en el HUN (Hospital Universitario Nacional de Colombia); esta obra ha pasado por diferentes momentos del conocimiento, empezando con Cirugía Básica en 1998, que era un compendio del diagnóstico y manejo quirúrgico del trauma
