Aunque la tesis mayormente sostenida considera a Briseida una figura secundaria de Ilíada -que correspondería a la repetición de un patrón de escenas típicas, el estudio de C. Dué inserta al personaje en una comprensión más amplia de la tradición épica, en estricta coherencia con los objetivos de la colección dirigida por G. Nagy. El texto consta de una Introducción; cuatro partes en las que Briseida resulta analizada desde la perspectiva crítica de la "multiformidad" épica -un concepto acuñado por Nagy que Dué utiliza en reemplazo del término "variante"; una conclusión y un perspicaz comentario acerca de la figura de Briseida en la elegía de Propercio a modo de "Afterword".
