El artículo intenta dar respuesta a las siguientes preguntas que se desprenden de la actual situación política iraní en relación a la continuación de su programa nuclear, su relación con Estados Unidos y su rol como potencia regional en Medio Oriente y el Golfo Pérsico. ¿Qué consecuencias regionales podría acarrear el ingreso de Irán en el mundo de la energía atómica? ¿estamos ante la posibilidad cierta de otra guerra por liberar a la región de otra "amenaza mundial"? ¿es posible la negociación y la cohabitación con un régimen como el iraní, dotado de energía nuclear, y en el peor de los casos, con armas atómicas? En primer lugar, se describen las características principales y el funcionamiento del sistema político iraní creado en 1979 y el estado actual del panorama político interno desde la llegada de Ahmadineyad a la presidencia. También se analiza el mecanismo de toma de decisiones en la política exterior iraní y la evolución de la cuestión nuclear desde sus orígenes hasta la situación actual. En último lugar las posibilidades de negociaciones, principalmente con Estados Unidos, para destrabar el estancamiento diplomático, en este caso la intervención de Irán como estado que podría colaborar en mantener la estabilidad de Iraq ante una próxima partida de las tropas estadounidenses. This article seeks to answer the following questions that derive from the present Irani political situation in relation to its nuclear program, its relationship with the USA and its regional potential in the Middle East and the Persian Gulf. What are the regional consequences which could be brought about by the introduction of Iran in the world of atomic energy? Are we facing the possibility of another war for the sake of freeing the region from another ?world threat?? Is negotiation and co-inhabitation feasible with a regime such as the Irani one, which counts with nuclear energy and, at its worst, atomic weapons? In the first place, the main characteristics and the functioning of the Irani political system created in 1979 are described, as well as the present state of the internal political situation since the advent of the Ahmadineyad presidency. The article also analyses the decision- making process in Irani foreign policy and the evolution of the nuclear question since its origins. Finally, the article deals with the possibility of negotiating, mainly with the USA, in order to stop diplomatic stagnation, in particular Irani intervention as a State that could collaborate in order to maintain the stability of Iraq in the face of a future departure of American troops.
