Resumo A “crise da democracia”, que preocupa a Ciência Política desde a eleição de Donald Trump em 2016, é a culminação de diferentes crises anteriores (de governabilidade, da representação etc.), que assolam os regimes competitivos liberais há várias décadas. Dessa perspectiva mais ampla, a excepcionalidade é a relativa tranquilidade vivida nos países centrais durante os trinta anos gloriosos que se seguiram ao fim da Segunda Guerra Mundial. Mas a combinação entre capitalismo e democracia se mostra necessariamente instável.
