Jenis komunikasi yang dapat dilakukan oleh teknologi GSM/GPRS diantaranya adalah komunikasi text and voice. Telephone dan Short Message Service (SMS) merupakan komunikasi audio dan data menggunakan teknologi GSM, dimana GSM adalah teknologi digital yang bekerja dengan mengirimkan paket data berdasarkan waktu, atau yang lebih dikenal dengan istilah timeslot. TCP/IP (Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol) yang merupakan sekelompok protokol yang mengatur komunikasi data dalam proses tukar-menukar data dari satu komputer ke komputer lain di dalam jaringan internet yang akan memastikan pengiriman data sampai ke alamat yang dituju adalah komunikasi data menggunakan teknologi GPRS, dimana GPRS merupakan sistem transmisi berbasis paket untuk GSM yang menggunakan prinsip tunnelling. Modul SIM 800L merupakan modul gsm/gprs transceiver, modul yang memungkinkan untuk melakukan komunikasi audio dan data dengan perintah yang diatur oleh microcontroller, Arduino uno salah satunya. Berdasarkan pengujian, komunikasi audio dan data ini berjalan dengan baik, dimana client dapat menerima seluruh komunikasi yang dilakukakan oleh server begitupun sebaliknya.
