Kata Kunci: Lagu Madura, Semiotika, Makna Abstract: This study aims to uncover the socio-spiritual meanings embedded in traditional songs of the Madurese ethnic community as representations of the religious values upheld by its speakers. Employing Roland Barthes’ semiotic theory, the research analyzes the denotative, connotative, and mythological meanings articulated within the song lyrics in order to reveal the construction of spirituality inherent in Madurese culture. The findings demonstrate that symbols such as the sea, agricultural activities, proverbial expressions, and cosmic signs—namely the moon and stars—reflect spiritual values associated with work ethic, the power of prayer, and an attitude of surrender to the will of God. The study affirms that traditional Madurese songs function as ethical and spiritual guidelines within the social life of the community. By positioning Madurese traditional songs as religious texts endowed with rich layers of meaning, this research offers a novel perspective in the study of local cultural expressions.
